I have an engineer in my own fic, but Tinker's a gimp pegasus [link].

The companion perk she gives is literally New Companion Perk: Spectacular Maintenance - "Broken Anti-Machine rifle? No prob, let me see that laser pistol and that steam gauge..." While Tinker is in your party, equipment (including weapons and apparel) degrade 50% slower. Also, through dialogue, you can have Tinker repair just about everything with just about anything.
